Cho-Liang Lin is lauded the world over for the eloquence of his playing and superb musicianship. Musical America named Cho-Liang its Instrumentalist of the Year in 2000. He appears regularly as a soloist with orchestras all over Europe, Australasia, Asia and North America. As music director of La Jolla SummerFest, Cho-Liang has commissioned and premiered works by Chen Yi, Chick Corea, Philip Glass, John Harbison, Mark O’Connor and Esa-Pekka Salonen, among others. As a solo artist, he has premiered concerti by Tan Dun, Christopher Rouse, Elie Siegmeister, Bright Sheng and others. Cho-Liang has recorded concertos, chamber music and contemporary music for Sony Classical, Decca, Ondine and BIS. His albums attracted Gramophone’s Record of the Year award and two Grammy Award nominations. His recording of Christopher Rouse’s Concerto was named one of the best classical releases of 2004 by the New York Times. Recent recordings for Naxos include Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and music of Austrian composer/conductor Georg Tintner. Born in Taiwan in 1960, Cho-Liang arrived in New York via Sydney in 1975. A member of the Juilliard faculty since 1991, he recently also joined the faculty of Rice University. He performs on the 1715 ‘Titian’ Stradivarius.
