Niki Vasilakis

Recognised as one of the most exciting violinists to emerge from Australia in recent years, Niki Vasilakis is firmly established as a leading young soloist and recording artist. Niki commenced her violin studies in Adelaide at the age of four, winning many awards as a young performer, with repeated competition success to follow at the Gisborne International and Hunts Master Performers National Instrumental Competitions and in 2003, the string final of Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year. Niki has performed with the Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, Orchestra Victoria, The Queensland Orchestra, Wellington Symphony Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony and Prague Symphony. Also recognised as a fine chamber musician, Niki was invited to join Trioz, the Australian piano trio with pianist Katherine Selby and cellist Emma-Jane Murphy in 2007. Her debut album with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra is available on ABC Classics, with a second solo album being released in late 2007. Niki features as a presenter and performer on the ‘Classical Destinations’ television series. She performs on an Antonio Guadagnini violin, 1872.
