SAIBAI ISLAND DANCERS

Saibai is approximately 20km long by 6km wide. The island was formed from alluvial sediment, built up over time from neighbouring Papua New Guinea’s vast river systems, which are a mere 5kms to the north.

The Saibai Island Dancers perform their own particular dances, mirroring and commenting on life on the Island and in the region, and have appeared both around Australia and internationally. They are led by the Chairperson of the Island, Mr Jensen Warusam.

GABRIEL AND DIMPLE BANI

Gabriel and his brother Dimple Bani live on Thursday Island, where they are involved actively in many facets of the lives of the Torres Strait Island communities, both musical and otherwise.

Sons of the prominent elder and contributor, the late Ephraim Bani, who wrote the song they perform in ‘4’, Dimple Bani is currently the Chief of Mabuiag Island, 100km North of Thursday Island Queensland, from where the Bani family originate.
