Pieter is based in Sydney, Australia and has many years working in film and television. He has received high praise and awards for his commercial, documentary, natural history and drama cinematography. He travels extensively internationally for his work and is renowned for his complex and beautiful visual style and his innovations. His involvement with US director James Cameron in the production of Ghosts of the Abyss, a HiDef 3D large format film, provided further insight for his work in the High Definition format. The film RAT, set in the sewers and subways of New York, was chosen as the best cinematography by the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) at the 1998 awards ceremony where he was named Cinematographer of the Year for his work on this film with US based director Mark Lewis. In addition, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on this film. Pieter recently worked on a film with Scott Hicks about the composer Philip Glass.
